This book is powerful, as it not only makes powerful statements about religion; but also about social and moral issues.
When Antonio is on his way to El Puerte, he thinks about the Virgin Mary and God. He comments on how God is like a mad and is so unforgiving and punishes his people severely while the Vigin Mary is forgining and loving and kind. He takes a stand against men and sides with women to be a good god.
